Collage was a medium I stumbled upon while working on my solo gallery show. I loved how freeing it was, where I didn’t have to be confined by straight lines and clean edges. It was pure, exhilarating mess.
I loved it so much, that I rashly decided to illustrate my next solo book project, LOST STICK, with collage. Did I think about the ramifications or the logistics at all? Absolutely not! I am definitely an act first, regret later kind of gal.
I had a love/hate relationship with the making of this book; it was one thing to illustrate some fun personal pieces for a show. It was entirely another to create 32+ pages of commercial illustration that hundreds of people worldwide might hold in their little hands.
It took a lot of trial, error, mistakes, whoopsies and goof-ups to create this book. Also, a studio absolutely covered in little annoying bits of paper.
However, we aren’t talking about Lost Stick (pre-order now!) today.
After I wrapped up this book, I had a pile of unused scrap collage paper.
I also had an empty page in my travel sketchbook, just waiting to be filled.
Because I hate being wasteful, I decided to create a spontaneous illustration using scraps. And I filmed my process in a very compact 1hr video, so you all can see how chaotic it can be.

Enjoy this little video!
Such fun! But be careful - I started collaging 2 years ago and now can't stop. 😂✂️🌷 Can't wait to watch the video!
Loved watching your video, Anoosha! I recently did a collage piece inspired by Mark Hoffman’s Gab N Doodle artwork. Your book looks great!
